Hi,
I need some advice. My wife has been in Australia for a year now. She finished her masters degree in Physiotherapy overseas in Poland. For the past year she has been taking English courses to get her English up to scratch and at the end of November she will be sitting her OET exam. Next year she will undertake the Physio exams provided by the APA which will allow her to work as a physio. In the meantime she is wondering if she can work as a physiotherapy assistant either in a clinic or at a hospital. We have looked everywhere for this information and we are getting no where. Any help on this matter would be great. My email is peter@zolkos.com

Thanks very much

LaTrobe PSA on "The 2009 St.George Melbourne Marathon - Masseuse"

We’re looking for Massage volunteers
to be involved in one of Melbourne’s most iconic sporting events.
The 2009 St.George Melbourne Marathon would not be possible without the generous support of around 850 volunteers. This includes around 100 volunteer masseurs. We’re currently seeking applications from practicing masseurs or students of massage related courses.
Many of the 15,000 competitors who are expected to complete the St.George Melbourne Marathon and SALONPAS Half Marathon will require a massage after this physically challenging event.
Sunday 11 October at the MCG
8:00am to 2:00pm

Tables and towels provided, please BYO oils

The massage area is completely sheltered and protected from the weather.
This is a great opportunity for students in the field of massage therapy to gain valuable hands on experience, and reduce their course volunteer hours, at a major Melbourne sporting event.
With your help we can make the 2009 St.George Melbourne Marathon an unforgettable experience for everyone involved!
Our online volunteer registration is now open, just go to http://www.melbournemarathon.com.au or contact our Volunteers Coordinator, Simon K Patterson, by emailing volunteer@melbournemarathon.com.au

Hi everyone

Hi Roland,
There is definitely a Sport Trainer Course coming up prior to the VAFA Season Start - keep checking the site as we will update it when we have locked in a date.

Due to so many different First Aid courses out there we generally recommend each 2nd year attends their own first aid course and we don't tend to organize a specific one.

We can speak to the School of Physio to possibly find a suitable first aid course for the entire year level that they can organize (or handball to us) - but in the past it has just been each student for themselves.

Im a second year physio student and was just wondering whether there would be any First Aid Level 2 and Sports Trainer Courses soon? I was hoping i could do it through the association since they tend to be cheaper (the uni sports centre charge $180 for the First Aid Level 2 course)

Hi Everyone,

The TEM Hockey clubs men’s section many months ago committed to enter 3 four man teams selected from our State League one squad in the Oxfam 100km Trailwalker. The event is being held on the 27th March to raise money to help fight poverty throughout the world.

The Oxfam TRAILWALKER originated in Hong Kong in 1981 as a military training exercise for the Queen’s Ghurkha Signals Regiment. In 1986, Oxfam Hong Kong was invited to co-organise the event and then in 1997, completely took it over. Over time, Oxfam TRAILWALKER became one of the largest fundraising sports events in Hong Kong and now also has massive success annually in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Belgium.

Our State League One squad has seen not only the commitment of the 12 selected walkers but commitments from up to 16 of our squad and club members to act as support crew for this mammoth task and cause. We have been training hard with our last two walks covering over 45km in a weekend. The event itself is the equivalent of walking 2.5 Olympic marathons consecutively which we have 48 hrs to complete. We are aiming to try and complete it as a team in half that time.

My team is called TEM Blue (Unofficially we are Bevo's Battlers!) and includes Evan Miller, Ben Seccull, Nick James, and myself. We are aiming to raise $2000 to assist the work of Oxfam.

As an example, $20 will buy 5 buckets. These buckets save lives simply by protecting the water within from diseases through their tight-fitting lid. They also stack easily inside each other, making them easy to transport and distribute in emergencies. A donation/sponsorship of $39 to our team would buy a goat for a Sri Lankan family which they can then sell to help buy school supplies or vital tools.

You can help enormously and support our efforts by visiting our teams Oxfam page and going to the white box in the centre and clicking on "donate to our team". Donations over $2 are tax deductible. A gift of $2 will make a huge difference but for $39 you can buy some incredibly needy people a goat which will change their lives in a huge way. In hockey terms we are looking to field 4 teams of goats!

To sponsor us, go to our team page at:
http://www2.oxfam.org.au/trailwalker/Melbourne/team/298

Your sponsorship of me and my team to support our efforts is greatly appreciated.

To learn more about the Trailwalker you can go to
http://www2.oxfam.org.au/trailwalker/Melbourne/about/default.aspx

Total Physiocare in Heidelberg is a musculoskeletal physiotherapy clinic which is developing an alliance between football clubs, trainers, physiotherapists and specialists.

We are looking for 3rd and 4th year physiotherapy students who are interested in taking part in a new program which involves extensive training in injury assessment and management, first aid and taping. The training will credit students with the equivalent of a Level One Sports Course; however will cover much more physiotherapist specific skills as it will be run by physiotherapists.

Trainers then become affiliated with a specific football club, and have a physiotherapist assigned to them to ask advice and even assess a player if required. Payment of trainers will be negotiated between the individual trainer and the club. Hours at the club will vary, but usually involve approximately 5 hours work on a Saturday and one training night per week.

Training will be conducted over 2 evening sessions. The first will be on Tuesday the 10th of March from 6 - 9.30 pm. There will be a small administration cost imposed by Sports Medicine Australia to become accredited; however the fee is much less than sitting the Level One Sports Trainers Course through La Trobe University.

If you are interested in taking part in this new program and having ongoing sports trainer employment for 2009 please contact Total Physiocare on 9457 7474 or direct an email to Lainie Parker at enquiries@totalphysiocare.com.au Due to the training sessions being run shortly, all interested students are required to make contact by the Wednesday 4th of March.
